Starting May 16, Entrepreneurs Can Raise Money in a Whole New Way. Here's What You Need to Know.

This law is opening doors for people who did not make over $200,000/year in the past 3 years or who does not have a networth of at least $1 million. Now, anyone, regardless of your income, can invest in small businesses! So, invest smart and make your money work for you. You never know. You just might be investing and own stock in the next $multi-million/billion startup business, like Facebook, Microsoft, or Childress Publishing (had to speak that into existence)!

Dedicated to Haters/Motivators-For Whom the Bell Tolls poem

This poem is dedicated to all these people:

  • For the haters who said that you could not and would not rise above adversity...
  • Doubters of your abilities...
  • For the perpetrators who said that you would not make it...
  • Skeptics of all things that rise rise above limitations...
  • For being your silent motivator through their discouragement...

The Infamous Seesaw

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Jump Off the Seesaw of Indecision ~Quiana Childress

It is better to make the wrong decision than spend years sitting on the fence of indecision. At least with the wrong decision, one can realize the mistake and quickly right a wrong. This can only push you closer to achieving your goals.

DAY 2: KICKIN’ THE HABIT!

It’s Day #2 of my weight-loss journey, and I am already feeling the urge to revert back to my old ways. Doesn’t that always seem to happen? As soon as you make up your mind to do something different, old habits try to kick back in your thoughts. For instance, when I went grocery shopping today, all of the pastries and comfort food seemed to whisper my name as I pushed my cart. They told me that they missed me already and wanted to be friends again.

It seems like a force greater than yourself tugs at the inner strings that are connected to all of your desires. For me, the very temptation of reverting back makes me feel guilty, ashamed and weak. Has this ever happened to you? You start something new, and it seems like everything out of the woods come out to attack you.

Despite everything, I will continue to move past those things that do not serve my best interest. Because the desire to achieve my goals and change my life, it is stronger than any temptation to fall back into my old ways. I’m better, stronger, and I have a great support team full of friends, family, and an awesome boyfriend who strengthens me even in my darkest hour.

As, I push past Day #2, I leave you with a poem that I wrote to help remind me of the dangers of old habits. It keeps me focused on my goals, and I hope that it will do the same for you.

Day 1: JUST START!

The hardest thing to do when changing any part of your life, especially losing weight, is just starting!

Over the past year, when my body and weight scale screamed “help,” I would give myself pep talks about finally starting the journey to getting back to a healthier, more fit me.

If you’ve ever ridden on this seesaw, then you know that it goes similar to this:

Night before- “I’M GOING TO DO THIS!”

Afternoon of next day: “Well…maybe, tomorrow”

Early morning after tomorrow: (as you read the numbers on the scale) “I’M DETERMINED TO DO THIS!”

Next day: “Well…let me just get through this weekend. I’ll start on Monday.”

I’ve been down that road several times on this weight-loss journey. Somehow, that Monday never arrived, and I found myself in this never ending mental battle full of confusion, disappointment and despair.

Eventually, you have to take a stand, and make a decision to just start.

So, today, I’m ending the battle. No, it’s not Monday but the Friday before a big weekend. No, it’s not early in the morning upon rising but 4:44 pm in the afternoon.  No, I have not gone grocery shopping, and there is nothing stopping me from going to Costco tomorrow. No more excuses and procrastination! I’m winning the war by starting my weight-loss journey, NOW!

As I head to the kitchen to make a smoothie, I leave you with this poem that I wrote in celebration of my decision to just start right now. I hope that you enjoy it. Comment below letting me know if my Just Start poem helped you start something (whether weight-loss or not) today!

Hello, World! My name is QUIANA, and THIS IS ME TODAY!

Within the last year, I’ve made some major changes in my life while enduring some almost insurmountable odds. Last year, over 1,300 miles and a 32 hour drive through a blissful wintry mix, I had finally arrived in Phoenix, Arizona.

Breathing the fresh air of new possibilities with a new career direction, Phoenix soon proved to be a challenge as I reached this

very quickly.

As my problems piled higher than a New York City dumpster,

so did my weight. Now, a year, a loving, supportive boyfriend, and 60 lbs. later, I am ready to shed the dead weight and fearlessly step into my long-time dream of writing and speaking. I’m reclaiming my life through my BodyQMC (Quiana’s Motivational Challenge) 10-week plan of body sculpting exercises, individually tailored meal plans, and #POWETRY!

With the turn of each week, my meals and exercises will change. Also, to hold myself accountable, I will be uploading new posts and videos almost daily tracking my progress.

Feel free to join me in these next 10 weeks in dropping the heavy weight and staying motivated through poetry!

Sometimes, Life requires a different path...

First, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your love and support for me on my journey!

Second, I want to inform you that I've had to put my medical school journey on halt due to unforeseen personal reasons. Being no stranger to adversity, I will step over this stone, as well.

Third, what can you do?
1) Please, no sad faces.

2) Please respect the fact that I am currently not going into details.

3) Please keep me in your prayers for perseverance, wisdom and understanding, guidance, courage, and strength.

All my best!
Quiana

p.s. I will still continue to make intermittent posts...

Meeting Dominica's First Family...

White Coat Ceremony

Friday, May 10, 2013 has arrived! It’s nearing the start of Ross University School of Medicine May 2013 Class’ White Coat Ceremony, and I am beginning to become anxious. As the commencement of the program quickly approaches, I begin to reflect on all the things that have transpired from my early childhood until now. Memories of the triumphs, the “bootstraps”, the laughs, the cries, the hope, the faith, the drive, and all the people who God has allowed our paths to cross in some form or fashion begin to overwhelm me. Life has conjured up so many events leading up to this point that have happened beyond my wildest dreams or imagination, the successful and not so successful moments. It also has allowed me the honor to be blessed with so many people that have spread their love and support throughout my life. As I reminisce on all these things and thank God for allowing me the opportunity to pursue my dreams, I fight back the tears, thus preventing my mascara from running…

The ceremony has begun, and most of the Dominican government officials and RossU administrators are in attendance. After speeches have been spoken and delegates have given their congratulatory praises, my colleagues and I rise for the donning of our white coats. For those who are unfamiliar with the purpose of the white coat ceremony, it serves as a “rite of passage” for medical students. Once you have put on your white coat, then you are responsible for upholding the expectations and privileges given to you by patients and society as a whole to conduct yourself in a manner becoming of a medical doctor and professional…

The time has now come for me to receive my white coat. I walk up confidently to the physician who is in charge of putting on my white coat, and I turn around to allow my white coat to be slipped on over my shoulders. As I physically accept my white coat, I also allow myself to embrace the support of God and so many other people who are chosen to help me carry the weight of my life’s new roles and expectations.

Meeting Dominica’s First Family…

After the white coat ceremony, my heart begins to beat faster in anticipation of the post-ceremony events. I was informed earlier that I would be meeting His Excellency Eliud Thaddeus Williams, President of Dominica, and his lovely wife. As I wait to be ushered in to sit and talk to the first family, my mind begins to flood with all sorts of thoughts, like what an honor and blessing from God for a small town girl from little Newport, Arkansas to meet the First Family of the Commonwealth of Dominica! What do I say? Do I shake their hands or give them a big Arkansas hug? Is my hair ok?...As thoughts raced in my head, the one thing that I was content was with just being Quiana.

Now, my time had come. As I was greeted by the President’s wonderful Secretary, Miss Blackmoore, who I had been in contact with for some time, I think she was a bit thrown off but reciprocated my big Arkansas hug. She gave me a big smile, welcomed me to Dominica, and congratulated me on my achievements, thus far. Sitting in the room was the President and his wife was finishing up a previous conversation. I shook their hands (and held back my hugs) and sat down. We had a great conversation about Dominica and life, and I was so grateful and felt very honored that they would take the time out of their super busy schedules to talk to me. I was invited to their house for Sunday dinners, when I was not overwhelmed with studying, and they also invited me to join them as their guest for Dominica’s Independence Day celebration! Wow, God always blesses me beyond anything that I can ever imagine!
President Williams, me, First Lady Williams (I still got my hugs!)

Ok, I will stop now, because I know that I can get a bit long-winded. Also, to those who chose to receive a white ceremony picture of me or a postcard on my GoFundMe page, please be on the watch for an addressed letter postmarked from Dominica. Message me or feel free to leave comments. Also, feel free to help financially support me through medical school by clicking on the Paypal “Donate” button in the top right hand corner of the page. More to come...
